Resolved to Rest
December 27, 2007                      I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, not just because you were with family, but because you were reminded of the One for Whom Christmas exists and the reason why the Christ's First Advent occurred, namely, 'when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.'
And now is the time for annual resolutions.  A few years ago, I resolved to never make another yearly resolution.  I have kept that resolution.  :) However, I fear that many will strive to make and strive to keep resolutions for 2008; and fail with ne'er a thought of the Gospel.  Resolutions must be present in the midst of Gospel-Focus; not the Gospel in the midst of resolve.

We must live trusting alone in the forgiving mercy of God; relying on the merits of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of sinful men.  Though as poor wicked sinners, we cannot but indulge the hope that God will save us from our dastardly efforts and merits, our sin, and eternal death, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  "Lay your deadly doing down, down at Jesus’ feet; Stand in him, in him alone, gloriously complete."

And once you are resting in the merits of Jesus, go and do
that
by this all people will know that you are [Christ's] disciples, if you have love for one another.

Resolve to rest.
